This guest cabin and studio was designed and built from the ground up as a flexible space that serves both as comfortable guest accommodation and a dedicated home office. The project focused on creating a small-footprint structure that feels intentional, warm, and well integrated into its surroundings.
The design features shou sugi ban–finished posts, beams, and rafters, along with matching deck and fascia details. These elements were chosen not only for their visual character but also for their durability and suitability for exterior exposure. Careful attention was given to proportion, material transitions, and craftsmanship throughout the build.
Because the structure fell within footprint limits, the project required no permit, allowing the design and construction process to move efficiently while still maintaining a high level of detail and finish. The result is a versatile, thoughtfully built space that balances function, craftsmanship, and restraint—equally suited for quiet workdays or welcoming overnight guests.
