The Brilliant Shop is a client-designed project that required close collaboration and technical coordination from the early planning stages through completion. We assisted the client in working with the Regional District to navigate building permit requirements, addressing several design and technical considerations along the way. In parallel, we worked closely with the project engineer to refine and finalize the structural design.
Black Fir Builds coordinated all aspects of the build, managing the project from conceptual design to completion of drywall and finished exterior. Our scope included all structural carpentry, exterior construction, and overall project management, ensuring continuity and clear communication throughout the process.
The building sits on an ICF foundation, creating a cool, stable environment ideal for a future cold storage room, along with nearly 1,000 square feet of basement storage. The upper level functions as a dedicated hobby woodworking shop, designed for comfort and usability. The space is heated with a combination of wood heat and a heat pump, and includes a small two-piece bathroom. A deck off the shop offers expansive views overlooking the Columbia and Arrow Lake Valley, connecting the workspace to its surroundings.
